I was a crewmember (also Radar/Radioman etc.) on the very first crew aboard this wonderful aircraft with Patrol Squadron 8 in Patuxent River Maryland. Talk about interesting flights, this was during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 and we certainly spent many operational hours chasing the USSR subs and surface vessels as they were heading to Cuban waters as well as ensuring the retreat. VP-8 was the very first Navy squadron to fly the P3A Orion and it was an absolute thrill.

I flew this aircraft from 1991-1994 and actually flew it to the boneyard. I was the radio/radar operator and flew lots of very interesting research flights with the Naval Research Laboratory. Lots of "lab coats" on board during those flights!
